In the 1920’s Angelo Fabbri and his brother Sisto Fabbri came to America in search of the "American Dream". They were stonemasons and builders by trade in their home in Northern Italy. Once they arrived, they settled in Cherry, Illinois as coal miners and then moved to Detroit to work in the auto factories. Eventually, the brothers heard of the growing economy and large construction market in the Chicago area and moved into the small town of Highwood, Illinois to work with a construction company as stonecutters. During that time, a stonecutter was one who would tool and shape the stones from a larger quarried slab. After being shaped to a precise measurement, the stone was then set in mortar into the wall.
While living in Highwood, Angelo and Sisto opened a small masonry company and proceeded to complete jobs throughout the North Shore. Other Italian immigrants came to America and worked for them as skilled labor.
In 1947, Angelo Fabbri bought Sisto’s shares and opened A. Fabbri & Sons with his three sons, Nello, Fulvio and Reno. A. Fabbri & Sons became known for their quality and craftsmanship brought from the old country. Their work was built to stand the test of time. A. Fabbri & Sons’ completed masonry work everything from personal residences, large churches, commercial work and academic buildings such as at Northwestern University, Oakton Community College and many area elementary and secondary schools.
In 1989 A. Fabbri & Sons was changed to Fabbri Masonry, Inc. when sons of Nello, Fulvio and Reno became owners. They had many of the same employees that had worked with Angelo and his sons. Quality and craftsmanship were being handed down through many generations. Senior stonemasons were instilling their caliber of workmanship among the men. In some instances, coveted chisels and other tools used for decades were passed down to the younger apprentices
Since then the company has downsized. As a smaller more personal company Fabbri Masonry has catered to clients who wanted true quality and craftsmanship. Every job was built with pride. In the early 90’s higher end residences and estate construction was growing on Chicago’s North Shore and Fabbri Masonry was putting additions on many homes that their grandfather Angelo had originally built.
In 2003 Paul, a fourth generation Fabbri became an owner. As a boy Paul worked under his grandfather Fulvio. Then in 2004 Reno’s grandson Brian, another fourth generation, became an owner. Dennis Fabbri is still very active in the company and shares his experience and wisdom everyday.
Today Fabbri Masonry’s work includes light commercial work with specialization in the residential market throughout the North Shore. Fabbri Masonry has built jobs such as Sunset Foods in Highland Park, park district buildings, car dealerships, and schools throughout the area.
We are finding that clients are demanding nothing less than perfection, and we are fulfilling their request. Fabbri Masonry stands for quality and consistency. We use the same construction techniques that our masons have used through generations; the level of experience among our employees is priceless and is demonstrated in our work. Fabbri Masonry works directly with the homeowner, architect and builder to assure that we will be proud of our work decades from now. It is not about simply putting up walls, but making sure that those walls will be there for generations, like Fabbri Masonry, Inc.
